Kinky Boots 1NT November 15, 2014
Pantages Theatre
ReviewThis show was definitely not what I expected. I thought it would have terrible music, extremely inappropriate (which I wouldn't mind), and no story. Boy was I wrong! First I'll start with the cast. As I always am with touring companies, I was impressed with the cast. Steven Booth and Kyle Taylor Parker did an amazing job at making you laugh and cry within a matter of a few minutes. They were fantastic. Lindsay Nicole Parker. Well, she was hilarious. She did a great job singing "History of Wrong Guys" and was for sure a hit. The show was by no means inappropriate (unless you are a homophobe or not accepting of others). The most inappropriate part may have been the words "kinky boots," which I am almost positive those words were only used once (maybe twice, but I don't think so). Now onto the story line. The story was pretty moving. Sure it was about a shoe factory trying to survive, but it was also about friendship. It showed how life and friendship really are. There are the happiest times in the world, and there are also the times when you don't speak to each other for awhile due to something stupid you say. Also, for Lola/Simon, you learn what it's like to be in his/her shoes (ha, see what I did there? Okay, I'll stop). You see what his father thinks of him, but Simon himself knows that it doesn't matter what other people think; he needs to be who he wants himself to be.
